"New Homes Proposed near Chester Park"by Casey DelliCarpini, Chestnut Ave. (Excerpts from an article in The Pelham Post, Nov. 2003, p. 7) The donuts and cookies provided by Caspi Development at an informal meeting at the Sanborn Map Building to discuss site plan concepts did little to sweeten the mood of concerned residents in the area. Steve and Joshua Caspi, the father and son team that owns the Sanborn Map Building, along with architect Raymond Beeler, introduced preliminary site plans to build five, two-family, semi-attached homes in the parking lot behind the Sanborn Building, near Chester Park. The houses would stretch from Willow to Seventh Street with a private, one-way drive going in that direction.... Two plans have the houses facing Maple, and the other two have them facing the Sanborn Building.... Many residents expressed concern that the proposed plans are too compressed for the area allotted. Several attendees questioned the need to "max out" on the legal amount of space with what are essentially ten homes, instead of keeping with the feel of the neighborhood and having only five homes with more land. Ray Beeler pointed out that the proposed plans are preliminary, and that he and the developers wanted to get some input from the community before proceeding.... The meeting of about forty residents was held in response to a letter from Caspi Development to the Chester Park community, and further meetings are not scheduled at this time.
