Chester Park
- Dumping and other "Quality of Life" crimes
Letter from CPA Officers to residents of
Birch and Walnuts requesting
cooperation in keeping leaf piles away from the Green

2006
Graffiti found its way onto part of the circular
walkway at the center of the Park. A potent dose of muriatic acid
reduced the markings to a faint shadow.

|
This fall's primary offenders of the "no
dumping" ordinance were two neighboring houses on Walnut
Ave.
Leaves and garden refuse from the
back yard and lawn of 13 Walnut end
up on the Green's curb.
|
The Village historically picks up leaves on park curbs at the end of
the season, and piles such as the above may remain for weeks, choking our
streets and accumulating large quantities of litter, branches and other
refuse. Leaves left on residents' own curbs, however, are promptly picked
up.

This fall showed an improvement to the problem of residents
depositing leaves and refuse in the Park. Thanks to Police Chief
Joseph Benefico, violators are being held accountable.

Chester Park Steps
|
Not all guests to Chester Park come for the clean air
and to smell the forsythia.
One repeat visitor mistook the stone columns at the
Park entrance for a granite ash tray - an easy mistake to make.

Police Joseph Benefico
asking Chester Park residents to place debris
in front of their own property, not the Park.

Chapter 74 - LITTER AND REFUSE

|
Bundled
branches remained on Park property for over 10 days, killing grass.
The Village does not pick up any refuse from the Park except when
scheduled for Association events, such as the semi-annual cleanups.

A Christmas tree dumped unceremoniously in the Park.
Not only does such action violate regulations against
dumping on Town property, but it also compromises Chester Park residents'
right to use the Park for recreational purposes.

Village maintenance crews attempt to unclog a drain pipe stuffed with
bags of dog feces.
The bags were left by a frequent dog-walker in the
Park.
