Village tree maintenance in Chester Park

Disturbing eye-sores in "Tree City - USA."

Willow Ave. - Chester Park's latest example of a "Pelham Saguaro," so named for the giant cacti of the American southwest they resemble.  Over twenty of the ghostly trees appeared last year on our Village streets.

Village maintenance crews are unable to remove the trunks, and the administration's policy is to let the trees accumulate for a full year.

Poplar Ave. - This tree was de-limbed over a year ago (Sept. 2002).  Con Ed promptly removes upper branches from dead trees that threaten power lines (and pedestrians!).  But the skeletal remains are the Village's responsibility and end up on a "bid list" put up for contract in August.

Is this "bundled" approach to removing dead tree trunks unique to our Village?  Are the cost savings substantial and are they worth the price?
