Traditional Chester Park
    Egg-Hunt songs

This collection of songs, celebrating Easter-egg hunts everywhere, was penned by Chester Park residents Maggie and Ann Willis based on popular tunes from today and yesteryears.  "Camp Alfie" is named after the Willis' tried and true dog, Alphie.

Before the Hunt

Here Comes Peter Cottontail

Here comes Peter Cottontail,

Hoppin’ down the bunny trail,

Hippety-hoppety, the egg hunt’s on its way!

Bringing all the girls and boys

Baskets full of Easter joys,

Hippety-hoppety, the egg hunt’s on its way!

Pick them Up

(to the tune “Jingle Bells”)

Pick them up, pick them up, eggs along the way.

Oh, what fun it is to hunt eggs this happy day.

Seek and find, seek and find, these eggs are for you.

Here’s a green, there’s a red, find a purple too.

When Easter Eggs are Hiding

(to the tune "Irish Eyes")

When Easter  eggs are hiding,

Sure it’s bound to be in spring.

When rabbits do the work,

      The chickens don’t do anything.

When Easter eggs are hiding,

Let’s hunt them while we may

For when Easter eggs are hiding,

We can find them all today.

We Wish You a Happy Easter

(to the tune "We Wish You a Merry Christmas")

We wish you a happy Easter, we wish you a happy Easter,

We wish you a happy Easter, and a lot of eggs too.

We’ll all go and try to find them.

We’ll all go and try to find them.

We’ll all go and try to find them,

And here’s good luck to you.

Good Egg Hunt To You
(to the tune "Good Morning To You")

Good Egg Hunt to you!  Good Egg Hunt to you!

We’re all in our places with egg-hunting faces.

This is the way

We egg-hunt today.

Let Me Call You Rabbit

(to the tune "Let Me Call You Sweetheart")

Let me call you rabbit, here’s an egg for you.

Let me see you hop around and find some too.

Keep the Egg Hunt going ‘till the last one’s through.

Let me call you rabbit, here’s an egg for you.

Songs for After the Hunt

Peter the Pink-Nosed Rabbit

(to the tune, "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer")

Peter the pink-nosed rabbit, laid a very fancy egg

But when he said, "Look what I did!"

People said, "Don't pull my leg."

All of the other rabbits thought poor Peter was a dunce.

They said it couldn't happen, or could only happen once.

So one rainy Easter eve, Peter made a nest.

He laid eggs and eggs and eggs, never never stopped to rest.

Then all the rabbits hailed him as a real egg fac-tor-y.

Peter the pink nosed rabbit, he made Easter his-tor-y!

I Want an Egg

(to the tune, "I Want a Girl")

I want an egg just like the eggs that rabbits like to lay.

One spotted egg, one striped egg, one that's bright and gay.

A fine, old-fashioned egg with colors true

Here is one for me and one for you

I want an egg just like the eggs that rabbits like to lay.

I'm Dreaming of a Green Easter

(to the tune, "White Christmas")

I'm dreaming of a green Easter, just like the ones I used to know

Where the bright eggs glisten and children listen

To hear where those eggs may go.

I'm dreaming of a green Easter with every egg I've ever seen

May your face be happy and clean!

And may all your Easter-times be green.

We've Just Had an Easter Hunt

(to the tune "Old MacDonald")

We've just had an Easter hunt, egg-aye, egg-aye OH!

And at the hunt were lots of eggs, egg-aye, egg-aye OH!

With a blue egg here and a red egg there and

Green eggs, yellow eggs all lying with their fellow eggs.

We've just had an Easter hunt, egg-aye, egg-aye OH!
