Walkway Renovation

Excavation and
Stonework

July - August 2005

One "Bob Cat" performing the work of many hands.

Careful supervision by community residents,

A trench six feet wide and eight  inches deep is cut along the path of the original walkway, most of which had been reclaimed by grass many years ago.

Sandoval Masonry supplied the heavy equipment for the excavation.

Five pallets bearing over 600 square feet of New York blue stone gets delivered by Prospero Nursery.

Each piece of two inch thick stone was hand-picked for the circle.

A bed of fine stone dust sets the stage for setting the blue stone.

Diamond-tipped circular saws cut each of the 77 pieces into perfect keystone shapes.

Craftsmen from Sandoval Masonry performed the complicated cutting and placement of each stone.

Top soil is brought up to the Park for re-grading areas around the newly-leveled walkway.

The soil came from the old Ingalls athletic field (where the new Middle School now stands).  The Chester Park Association was able to obtain the soil for only the cost of transport.

Thanks to an aggressive watering campaign, most of the seed successfully took hold.

 The project comes full circle.
