Above - Monster winds took their toll on branches big and small.  Removal of
dead limbs from the Green's many trees is one of this summer's CPA projects.

Former Pelham Mayor Joe Durnan, who officiated the  service, had recommended Chester Park as a romantic location for the wedding.  Joe grew up on Chestnut Ave. not too many years ago.

A  sister copy of the Chester Park Fountain survives at the elite Metropolitan Club on Fifth Ave. and 60th St.

The Italian Renaissance club was designed by the firm of McKim, Mead & White in 1894, two years after the founding of Chester Park. The Metropolitan Club's first president was J. Pierpont Morgan.  Click here to see Chester Park's version that possibly inspired the replica in midtown Manhattan.

Fairies appear to have settled in the North end of Chester Park, as evidenced by this A-frame structure discovered one April morning.   The elusive creatures are believed to bring good luck to our community.

December 23, 2007

A Chester Park tradition of caroling returned
this year as revelers took to our festive streets
bringing musical cheer (if not perfect harmony)
 from door to door.

The last of the leaves to be taken from the Park,  whimsically arranged by either the wind or an inspired landscaping crew.

November 27, 2007

A pile of leaves assembled from Maple Ave. (and not the Green) awaits  removal by the Village.

The hay-stack sized mound was placed temporarily at the Green's front steps by the Village's excavator.

Rain could not keep two Chester Park gremlins for visiting the Green.

The American flag  stood vigil during many rainy days in July.

A liquid of unknown origin leaves an abstract trail across Walnut.

The leaky container must have become noticeably lighter by the time it reached the border of Chester Park.

July 3, 2007

Preparations for the Fourth of July included the ceremonial hanging of Old Glory in the center of the Green.  This year's flag bearers were Hannah Mackay and Tony Terraciano.

Chester Park Reservoir

April 16, 2007

Many homes in Pelham sustained damage as torrential rains pounded Westchester County.   While Chester Park is on relatively "high ground," a network of ponds still formed in some back yards.

Stuck

April 11, 2007

A long-tailed kite was no match for the hungry branches of maple trees lining the Green off Birch Ave.

March 24, 2007

"Cat" of 53 Maple broke the Chester Park record for time spent up in a tree.  Whether chased there by a dog or lured by a pesky squirrel, Cat remained 40 feet in the air for nearly 50 hours.  Calls for assistance to the Pelham Fire and Police Departments met with, "You've got to be kidding."

The owners finally hired a local tree service, who rescued the hungry feline from his perch with a cherry picker.

A stump temporarily used as "second base" in this spring's pick-up games, gets grounded out.  The CPA now removes stumps to eliminate tripping hazards.

June 2005

Fresh clover marks the site of an ancient maple stump removed in the 1990's when Con Ed. claimed its branches threatened electric lines.

The 4 foot diameter stump was finally ground up this spring, leaving a fresh bed for clover to take hold.
